Yellowstone is the oldest
park in the U.S. park system and each year it draws 3 million visitors. Riding
a rare "hot spot" in the earth's surface, Yellowstone's turbulent
landscape—which remains among the most geologically active lands on the planet
with steam-spewing geysers, gurgling fumaroles, and frequent earthquakes—was
protected as the world's first national park in 1872. We entered
Yellowstone via the north
entrance and on the first day visited Old Faithful, plus many other park sites. We also
saw many buffalo. Toward day's end, we exited the west entrance into West
Yellowstone for a night of rest. The next morning, after scraping the frost
found on our windshield, we re-entered the park via the west entrance and toured more of the
park before heading to Grand Teton National Park.
