Our June 2004 trip to Albuquerque and Southern Colorado
We started in Albuquerque and headed west to Farmington NM (Home of The Patchwork Pig and some great New Mexican food), Shiprock, NM and on to Cortez, CO. Our first big adventure was at Mesa Verde National Park http://www.nps.gov/meve for some fantastic views and great wild flowers.
Then it was on to Durango, CO. http://www.durango.org/ where the lows were in the 40s and it was beautiful. The next day started with a trip north toward Silverton for some excellent mountain views. This was followed by shopping in Durango (Durango Quilt Company). http://www.animasquilts.com/
We next headed east to Pagosa Springs and La Veta. More great views and cool temps. We continued west and spent the night in Trinidad, CO. We found a New Mexican food place with tamales to die for.
Next morning it was on to Taos and Los Alamos with a stop at Bandelier National Monument http://www.nps.gov/band/ for some hiking, more site-seeing and a quick snack. Then we climbed back in the "tour-mobile" for a scenic drive to Santa Fe and down The Turquoise Trail. http://www.turquoisetrail.org/
Our last day was back to Albuquerque for a quick stop at Southwest Decorative Creations (my favorite Albuquerque quilt shop). Next was a walking tour of Old Town Albuquerque where we did some last minute shopping and had a spicy lunch at our favorite restaurant, Little Anita's (more New Mexican food). After lunch we headed to the airport to fly home.
